How to Find Subscriptions on a Wells Fargo Statement
Wells Fargo statements record every subscription paid from a Wells Fargo account, and the checking statement even labels some of them. The rest are mixed in with everyday spending. This guide shows where recurring charges appear on Wells Fargo checking and credit-card statements, how to download the PDFs, what Control Tower in the app does and does not show, and how to turn the statements into a full list with monthly and yearly totals.
If you also have accounts or cards at other banks, the general method is in how to find all your subscriptions from a bank statement.

Three months per account is the minimum for monthly charges to repeat; twelve months shows annual renewals.

Wells Fargo statement layouts
Checking and savings statements open with an activity summary — beginning balance, deposits and other additions, withdrawals and other subtractions, ending balance — followed by a Transaction history table. The columns are typically the date, an optional check number, the description, separate Deposits/Additions and Withdrawals/Subtractions amounts, and an ending daily balance. Descriptions are long and frequently wrap onto a second line.
Credit-card statements open with an account summary and payment information, then a transactions list with the transaction date, the description and the amount, split into payments and credits, purchases, fees and interest charged.
Where recurring charges appear
On a checking statement, everything is in the one Transaction history table, in date order. Three kinds of lines matter:
- Recurring debit-card payments. On many Wells Fargo statements, a debit-card charge that the merchant flagged as recurring is described as a recurring payment authorised on a date, followed by the merchant and the card's last four digits. That label is the quickest win on the page — but merchants do not always flag their charges, so some subscriptions appear as ordinary purchases.
- Ordinary debit-card purchases, described as a purchase authorised on a date, then the merchant. Subscriptions that were not flagged sit among these.
- Direct debits from insurers, utilities, phone companies and lenders, shown with the company name and a reference that can change each month.
On a credit-card statement, subscriptions are unmarked lines in purchases. Find them by pattern — the same description every statement, a familiar price point, a single larger annual charge, or processor prefixes like APPLE.COM/BILL, GOOGLE *, PAYPAL * and SQ *. The credit card statement guide covers descriptors and amount changes in detail.
Reading wrapped descriptions
Wells Fargo checking descriptions are long, and many wrap onto a second line. The first line usually carries the type of transaction and the date it was authorised; the merchant name may start on the first line and finish on the second, followed by a reference and the card's last four digits. When you compare months, read both lines together and match on the merchant name, not on the reference numbers, which change every time.
Lines to set aside first
Some monthly lines repeat without being subscriptions: automatic payments to your own cards, transfers between your own accounts, person-to-person payments, deposits, and ATM withdrawals. Remove them before counting and the real recurring charges stand out.
Control Tower and its limits
Control Tower, in the Wells Fargo Mobile app, gives a consolidated view of where your Wells Fargo debit and credit cards are connected: recurring payments, mobile wallets and third-party apps that use your card details. It also lets you turn a card off or on. As a cross-check it is excellent. Its limits:
- Wells Fargo cards only. A card from another bank is invisible to it.
- Card-connected payments only. Direct debits from your checking account number are not card payments, so they may not appear in a card-connection view.
- Processors stay grouped. One
APPLE.COM/BILLconnection can stand for several apps.
The statements show every charge that actually posted, from every source. Control Tower plus the statements is a thorough combination.
Doing it from the PDF
Open the transaction history
On checking statements, go to the Transaction history table; on card statements, go to purchases. Skip the summaries.
Group repeat descriptions
Put the months side by side and mark every merchant that appears on more than one statement. Start with the lines labelled as recurring payments, then look for the unlabelled repeats. Count the days between charges: about 30 is monthly, about 91 quarterly, about 365 annual.
Total monthly and annual cost
Next to each merchant write the latest amount, the monthly equivalent (quarterly ÷ 3, annual ÷ 12) and the yearly cost, and total both columns. Compare the newest amount with the oldest to see price changes. The subscription audit checklist has a worksheet ready to copy.
Or upload one statement
StatementConvert.ai reads a Wells Fargo statement PDF and lists the merchants that charge on a cycle, whether or not the statement labelled them, with the observed cadence, the latest amount, the last and next expected charge date, the monthly equivalent, the yearly cost and a confidence label (Confirmed, Likely or Possible). The list is suggested from the transactions it read, so check each row against your statement; transactions are read by AI, which can make mistakes, and the result shows whether they agreed with the balances printed on the statement. It never asks for your Wells Fargo login, and we never store your statement: its pages are read by our AI providers (OpenAI, and Anthropic for a second reading) and the file is then discarded (details on the privacy page). Without signing in you see the count and totals; a free sign-in shows the full list and the Excel, CSV, JSON or XML download. The free plan covers up to 5 statement pages a month, and paid plans accept up to 12 statements in one upload. It is informational: it shows what repeats and what it costs, and never contacts a merchant.
Converting the same statement to Excel
The same upload also produces every transaction as an Excel, CSV, JSON or XML file. Full walkthrough: how to convert a Wells Fargo statement to Excel.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I download my Wells Fargo statement as a PDF? Sign on to Wells Fargo Online, open Statements and Documents, choose the account and statement period, and download the PDF. In the Wells Fargo Mobile app, open the account and look for Statements and Documents.
Does Wells Fargo show recurring payments? Yes, for its own cards. Control Tower in the Wells Fargo Mobile app shows where your Wells Fargo debit and credit cards are connected, including recurring payments. It only covers Wells Fargo cards, so other banks' cards need their own statements.
Do Wells Fargo credit-card statements work for this? Yes. The manual method works on Wells Fargo checking, savings and credit-card statements, and the StatementConvert.ai finder reads credit-card statements as well as checking statements.
Is it safe to upload a Wells Fargo statement? Check any tool's privacy terms before uploading. StatementConvert.ai never asks for your Wells Fargo login and never stores your statement: the PDF is processed in server memory, its pages are read by our AI providers (OpenAI, and Anthropic for a second reading), and it is then discarded. The providers do not train on it and may keep request logs for up to 30 days. More detail: is it safe to upload your bank statement online.
